Neurology of the Ebola outbreak

Dr Liu is a consultant neurologist at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. She treats patients with a wide range of neurological conditions and medically unexplained symptoms.

She offers a specialist epilepsy service covering all aspects of seizure management from newly diagnosed epilepsy to complex and difficult to control epilepsy. She emphasises a holistic approach to managing epilepsy, concentrating not only on medication but mood, memory and social wellbeing.

Dr Liu is the trust lead for functional neurological disorders and has established a clinical service for patients with dissociative seizures.

She completed her medical training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and obtained a first class BSc Degree in psychology from University College London. She conducted her postgraduate medical training at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square and the Royal Free Hospital, London.

She developed her epilepsy skills at The Epilepsy Society, Chalfont and Queen Square.

Neuro-Hepatology

Advances in diagnosis and treatment of amyloid

Professor Julian Gillmore undertook MD and PhD degrees in the field of amyloidosis. His research interests include pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of amyloidosis.

He was appointed centre head at UCL's centre for amyloidosis in 2019 and is research lead at the UK national amyloidosis centre.

Dr. Gillmore was the first scientist to systematically highlight the relationship between the abundance of amyloid fibril precursor proteins, the course of amyloid deposits and the clinical outcome in several different forms of Amyloidosis.

Update on spasticity management

Dr Donnelly completed her neurology training at King's College Hospital, Guys and St Thomas' and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

She completed a fellowship in spasticity and neurorehabilitation at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and has been the consultant for the Royal Free London neurological rehabilitation centre since 2019. Her specialist interests are neurorehabilitation and complex spasticity management.

Development of new approaches to disease management in Parkinson's

Professor Anthony Schapira was appointed in 1990 as chairman of the University Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, and professor of neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UCLH and the Royal Free London Hospital, London, UK. He is currently head of the department of clinical and movement neurosciences at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. He is a member of the board of the Oxford University Hospitals Board. He was appointed to the NHS Reconfiguration Board in 2019.

Professor Schapira's research interests include the molecular and clinical aspects of neurodegenerative diseases, with special emphasis on Parkinson disease and other movement disorders. He has over 450 peer-reviewed publications with more than 35 in Nature or Lancet series journals, and has edited over 15 books on various aspects of neurology including the textbook Neurology and Clinical Neuroscience. His H-index is 97 (Thomson, WoS), 121 (Google Scholar) and he has 16 Citation Classics (>400 citations). He is on the 2018 list of the world's most highly cited researchers (Clarivate).

Professor Schapira is the recipient of the Harveian Medal, the Royal College of Physicians Clinical Science Prize, the European Prize for Clinical Science, the 1999 Opprecht Foundation Award and the Duchenne Prize. He was elected a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 1999. He was appointed a senior investigator at the National Institutes of Health Research in 2012. He was editor-in-chief of the European Journal 2006-2019.

Early diagnosis of Parkinson's and Parkinson's Plus conditions

Huw Morris is consultant neurologist and professor of clinical neuroscience at the Royal Free Hospital, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and UCL Institute of Neurology.

His main clinical and research interests are in movement disorders and neurogenetics, particularly early onset, genetic and familial Parkinson's disease and atypical Parkinsonian disorders such as progressive supranuclear palsy, cortico-basal degneration and fronto-temporal dementia with Parkinsonism.

His clinical and research training took place at the National Hospital, Queen Square, the Mayo Clinic and the Western Pacific island of Guam. He sees patients on an NHS and research basis. His research is funded by Parkinson's UK, the Medical Research Council, the PSP Association and the Motor Neuron Disease Association.

Novel Treatments in Alzheimer's disease

Jonathan works at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust where he is the Clinical Director for Neurosciences and is a member of the NCL STP Neurology Group.

He trained at Imperial College in London. He undertook clinical training in a number of London teaching hospitals, including a period as a clinical research fellow at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Jonathan has expertise across general neurology with a specialist interest in dementia and cognitive disorders. He developed the Cognitive Disorders Service at the Royal Free and was part of the London memory Network Steering Group.

He enjoys teaching both within medicine and allied disciplines. He co-authored the book Neurology for MRCP and regularly teaches for both University College London and Birkbeck University.

Dr Ben Turner is a highly experienced Consultant Neurologist. He was appointed to St Bartholomew's and The Royal London NHS Hospitals in 2003. An Honorary Senior Lecturer for his research work and publications in Multiple Sclerosis and other Neurological Conditions, such as Headache and Dizziness.

Dr Turner is also actively involved in research into Multiple Sclerosis, particularly clinical research into new therapies, and has over 20 years clinical trial experience. He is Chief UK and Principal Investigator for several phase III clinical treatment trials and leads the HSCT stem cell therapy programs for MS at Bart's Health NHS Trust. Through this work Dr Turner has an extensive knowledge and experience in the full range of disease modifying therapies available to MS patients.

As an NHS consultant in a busy London Teaching Hospital, Dr Turner has two decades of experience in the full range of neurological conditions, caring for patients suffering from daily complaints such as headache and dizziness as well as life threatening conditions such as TB meningitis.

Dr Turner is Clinical and Educational Lead of Neurology for Barts Health NHS Trust, As Clinical lead Dr Turner manages the Neurology department and helps develop its role in a large London Teaching Hospital, providing for one the most ethnically rich but economically poor areas of the UK.

Adrian Wills was a Neurologist but found the concept of left brain supplying right body too intellectually challenging so currently spends his spare time seeing patients with coughs, tummy ache and nasty rashes. A late life crisis has led him to adopt an Arcadian lifestyle. He keeps bees (current honey production zero) and is a fully fledged falconer but denies all accusations of being "under the thumb".

The pandemic and the post-pandemic future of the NHS

Stephen Powis is the National Medical Director of NHS England and Professor of Renal Medicine at University College London.

Previously he was Medical Director (and latterly Group Chief Medical Officer) of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust from 2006 to 2018. Professor Powis was also a member of the governing body of Merton Clinical Commissioning Group for five years and a Director of Healthcare Services Laboratories LLP.

He is a past Chairman of the Association of UK Universities (AUKUH) Medical Directors Group and has been a member of numerous national committees and working groups, including the Department of Health Strategic Education Funding Expert Group. He is a past non-executive director of the North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, including a period of eight months as acting chairman.

He is a past chairman of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) for Renal Medicine and a former board member of Medical Education England. He was Director of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education for UCLPartners from 2010-13. He is a past treasurer and trustee of the British Transplantation Society and a former member of the UK Transplant Kidney Pancreas Advisory Group.

He has also served as a member of the Renal Association Executive Committee. He was Editor of the journal Nephron Clinical Practice from 2003 to 2008. In 2017 he became the inaugural Editor-in-Chief of the journal BMJ Leader. He has been a trustee of several charities, including the Royal Free Charity and the Healthcare Management Trust.

Is it Lymphoma?

Luke is a consultant neuroradiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and honorary clinical research fellow under the Division of Surgery and Cancer.

His main research interests are neuro-oncology and vascular imaging and he is co-lead of the translational brain tumour research group at Imperial College. Within neuro-oncology, Luke is particularly interested in the application of advanced, multiparametric intraoperative ultrasound in guiding brain tumour resection.

Judgement Day

Dr Kennedy qualified from Charing Cross Medical School in 1985 and subsequently trained as a neurologist at Atkinson Morley Hospital. His research used functional imaging and was carried out at the MRC Cyclotron Unit, Hammersmith Hospital and the Dementia Research Group, Institute of Neurology, Queen Square.

He was appointed to the consultant staff at The Chelsea and Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals in 1997 and is the clinical lead for neurology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

He has areas of interest in all aspects of neurology, but particularly Alzheimer's disease, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and stroke.
